As a seed undergoes a transformation to become a beautiful flower or towering tree;
As a caterpillar is transformed into a beautiful, soaring butterfly;
So God wants to transform us ever more into the image of His Son, Jesus.
It is our hope, prayer, and intention that each service impacts you in 4 ways:
Who you are is manifest in the heart;
where God first searches, and what every message first seeks to penetrate.
Scripture should challenge us to think,
to expand our understanding of what is, and what is possible.
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” (Hamlet to Horatio)
By the time Sunday rolls around we need a word that, like a warm shower after a hard day’s work, makes us feel clean, refreshed, and ready to conquer the week ahead.
Faith without works is dead;
so every message will challenge you to act out your faith in new, creative,
life-affirming ways.
Pastor H. Alonzo Coombs received Jesus Christ as Savior in 1981 at the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, in NYC. Not long after receiving the Lord, he began actively involving himself in ministry.
Early in his walk with Christ, the Lord made it known to Alonzo that he was to preach the Gospel. Wanting neither the spotlight nor the awesome responsibility of preaching or pastoring, Alonzo shied away from that prophesy, choosing to serve in other ways. But in 2009, Pastor Norcecio Harris told Alonzo he had been instructed by the Lord to ordain him for ministry as a preacher, teacher and worship leader.
Though hesitant at first, Alonzo agreed, conditioned upon confirmation by his then pastor, Bishop Dr. Jacqueline McCullough. Quite convinced she would insist on more time and preparation on his part, Alonzo was more than a little surprised to discover that the Lord had shared the same revelation with Pastor McCullough. Rev. Coombs humbly accepted the call, and nine months later he was formally ordained, birthed, as it were, as a minister of the gospel.
Over the years, Rev. Coombs has studied and served under such notable ministers as Rev. Norcesio Larry Harris, Senior Pastor of HRP Life Changing Ministry in Newburgh, NY; Bishop, Dr. Jacqueline McCullough, Senior Pastor of the International Gathering at Beth Rapha, in Pomona, NY; Bishop Ezra Williams and his successor, Bishop, Dr. Carlton Brown, Senior Pastors of Bethel Gospel Assembly, NYC, where Alonzo served in ministry for close to twenty years; and Rev. Maria Lites, Senior Pastor of The Unbroken Chain Church, NYC.
His ministry affiliations and activities have gained Rev. Coombs the respect of colleagues throughout the body of Christ as a teacher, preacher, writer, sound engineer, praise and worship leader, and soloist. Alonzo has also served on Harlem’s Community Board #10; as board chairperson of Urban Youth Alliance, Inc. NYC, which creates Christian clubs in high schools and colleges throughout the tri-state area; as board chairperson of The Noel Pointer Foundation, Inc. NYC, which creates and runs string music programs in schools and churches throughout NYC; and as board chairperson of the Great Day Chorale, NYC, which brought the Negro Spirituals to Carnegie Hall, churches, and venues throughout the tri-state area.
The Lord has blessed Rev. Coombs with a gift to teach and preach in a way that is clear and easy to understand. He offers a timely Word from God that will touch your heart, stimulate your intellect, revive your spirit, transform your mind, inspire you to action, and prepare you for victory in life!
Pastor Coombs is happily married to his wife and partner, Regine Thorpe-Coombs.
